Upgrade to Top Closing Damper. They are far better than your existing internal fireplace damper.
When your internal damper malfunctions, we offer a solution by installing top closing dampers, which come with a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. Unlike traditional dampers, which are positioned in the “throat” of a fireplace and built directly into it, our top closing dampers represent a superior, modern alternative.
Traditional internal dampers are typically constructed metal and can warp or break being in such close proximity to the fire in the fireplace over time.
Upgrade to Top Closing Chimney Dampers: Energy Efficiency and Savings
Traditional interior dampers are notorious for their poor sealing capabilities, as they can warp being their location is too close to the fire. This design allows precious heat from your home to escape up your chimney flue, resulting in significant energy and heat loss during the colder months. It’s essentially like watching your hard-earned money vanish up the chimney.
You can easily operates it from inside your firebox. Below is an instructional video on how to use a top closing damper.
Customized Top Closing Damper Installation
To provide you with an accurate price, including installation, for a top closing damper on your chimney, our team needs to visit your location and measure inner dimension of the flue tile at the top opening of your chimney and also to see if you have a flue tile in the first place. If the flue tile is not there, or if you do have a flue tile but the inner dimensions are too small for the manufacturer’s installation size requirements for proper mounting of the top closing damper into it, we will write a bid for the installation a flue tile or the replacement of the correct inner dimension sized flue tile too.
Installing Caps over the Top Closing Dampers
People tend to forget to close the top closing damper during bird season and bird can still get down into the flue and nest in the smoke shelf if you do not close the top damper when not in use. Many customers request a chimney cap over installed one the top damper. The Standard chimney caps do not fit over the top dampers and prevent it from opening and closing properly. The company that makes the top closing dampers offer special sized stainless steel caps that do fit over the top damper and do allow it to open and close properly. If you are interested in getting a top damper chimney cap over your top damper, let me know during the call requesting a bid for the top damper.
We do not install Pop A Top Style Top Closing Dampers, only the cast iron or stainless steel version
Pop A Top style dampers do not install into the flue tile but are caulked on to the top of it. The caulking goes bad over time and they will fall off. Also they are made of thin sheet metal and three are gaps in the lid design that lets cold air in even when they are full closed. Also their opening mechanisms become stuck all the time, especially during snow and ice storms. They do not have knuckle mechanism built in to be able to open them from inside and the only way to do so is to go onto the roof and open them by hand manually. Because of all of these design flaws, wed o not sell or install those types of top dampers.
